Levenhuk D70L Digital Microscope can be used for studying both transparent and opaque objects in transmitted light using the bright field method. This microscope is ideal for biological researches or teaching demonstrations - it's very convenient to study samples in a group of students, they can see it on the 3.6" LCD display in a real time.

All optical elements of this microscope are made of high-quality multi-coated glass that's why with Levenhuk D70L Digital Microscope you will be surprised by sharpness and brightness of produced images. Levenhuk D70L modules:

Focusing arm 
The focusing arm located on the stand allows vertical movement of the stage. Handles are lined up at the both sides of the stand. The total focusing value is at least 10 mm (0.4 in).

Stage 
The stage is fixed on the bracket secured on the focusing arm block. The specimen holder is located on the stage surface, and the diaphragm disk is attached to the lower part of the stage. A stopping screw limits movement of the stage bracket, which eliminates possible contact between the objective and the specimen.

Revolving nosepiece 
The revolving nosepiece holds the objectives; to replace an objective, rotate the ring until it reaches the fixed position.

Maintenance of the microscope

• The microscope should be kept clean and protected from damage. When it is not in use, cover the microscope with a special case included.
• To maintain the microscope, regularly wipe dust off it, then clean it with a soft cloth slightly moistened with acid-free petroleum jelly. Afterwards, wipe it with a dry, soft, clean tissue.
• Metallic parts should be kept clean. Special attention should be paid to maintaining cleanliness of the optics (especially objectives and eyepieces).
• Never touch the optic surfaces with your fingers.

In case dust soils the objective lens deep in the casing, carefully wipe the lens with a clean cotton swab slightly moistened with Levenhuk cleaning spray or spirits mixture. If you notice dust inside the objective or a film on the inside of the lenses, the objective should be sent for repair.

• Never attempt to disassemble objectives and eyepieces; doing so would void the warranty.

Looking for something to start your observations with?

Paramecium caudatum is perhaps one of the first protozoans that a young naturalist would explore. These organisms live in fresh standing water. They can also be found in an aquarium, especially if it hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. My ciliate-shoes were taken from the aquarium. Of course, there are only a few ciliate-shoes in aquarium water – the possibility of finding one of them in your microscope’s eyepiece is extremely low. Therefore, we need to increase their concentration. To do so, take a jar (about 17 fluid ounces or 0.5 liters), fill it with aquarium water, put a small spoiled onion and banana peel inside. Put the jar in a warm dark place for 5 to 7 days (don’t close it with a lid).

The average size of Paramecium caudatum is 0.02 inches (0.5 mm). For locomotion Paramecium caudatum uses its cilia (about 15 thousand cilia cover its little body!). Moreover, it has two nuclei (a large macronucleus is responsible for nutrition, respiration, metabolism, etc.; and a small micronucleus – for reproduction). Paramecium caudatum feeds on bacteria or algae. The food is caught by an oral groove covered in cilia and then goes to the cell mouth. It is then digested in the digestive vacuole (gullet). Undigested leftovers are ‘thrown out in the open’ through an anal pore (cytoproct). To remove all excess water, our heroine has two contractile vacuoles. They work like pumps on a boat, pumping excess water out of its body. Paramecium caudatum maintains its slipper-like shape thanks to a special membrane (pellicle).
