iOptron iEQ45 Pro RA Balance routine

 

The new iEQ45 Pro-AZ GOTO German equatorial mount is the next generation premium astro-imaging mounts from iOptron. We've made a few changes on the iEQ45 including: 

• Stepper motor (instead of servo)
• Higher gear ratio for even smoother tracking

A number of visual changes (plugs moved to sides, motor covers are singular piece, and more) The iEQ45 Pro-AZ mount offers the next generation GoTo technology from iOptron --not to mention built-in 32-bit GPS. With a payload of 45 lbs for EQ mode and 90 lbs for AZ mode (dual mounting) -- it comes standard with a calibrated dark field illumination polar scope. It also fits both Vixen and Losmandy-type mounting plates. Its lighter weight (only 25 lbs.) makes it much easier to carry. 

Other Features still included: 

• Losmandy/Vixen dual saddle
• AccuAlign^TM Polar Scope
• iOptron 2" tripod or Tri-Pier (with or without Rolling Case)

 

Altitude and azimuth adjustment - The altitude and azimuth knobs give fine control over the adjustments required for accurate polar alignment. The altitude adjustment can be set at the 5º-70º range (two altitude knobs provided; one for low latitude, the other for higher latitude), while the two azimuth knobs have a range of ±6º.

 

 

Polarscope - The in-built polarscope has a illuminated reticule and a bubble level on the outside to help you obtain the correct alignment. The position of Polaris can be determined via the handset or by using the iOptron smartphone polarscope app. Both methods gave good results.

The iEQ45 Pro mount equipped with an iOptron’s AccuAlignTM polar scope. You can do a fast and accurate polar axis alignment with iOptron’s Quick Polar Alignment procedure.

 

 

Ports - Along with the DC 12V power connector and on-off switch, there are also a selection of ports: hand controller (HBX), ST-4 for autoguiding, RS232 for a computer connection, dec. cable, and one to supply power to the polarscope reticule.

 

Tripod/Tri-Pier (depends on selected option) - The stainless steel adjustable tripod did a good job and is fitted with a leg spreader. Unusually, the mount body is not attached to the tripod via its central bolt, but via two upper bolts on the mount head itself. The tripod head has a central locating pin. 

 

 

The iOptron Tri-Pier combines the strength and stableness of a pier with the levelling flexibility of a tripod. Aluminum pier and leg tops. Stainless steel leg extensions. The Tri-Pier feet has built-in vibration suspension pads. The Tri-Pier is fitted with three Pull Rods for extra stability. It also has an alignment peg facing north.

 

 

Dual EQ/AZ operation (depends on selected option)

The the iOptron iEQ45 AZ Base (#8050), the new iEQ45 Pro can operate in both EQ and AZ configurations.

 

GOTONOVA® computerized control system
The iEQ45 Pro is equipped with the most advanced GOTONOVA^® GOTO technology, making it one of the most powerful and accurate GOTO mounts available. Its database includes over 300,000 objects. 

  

The revolutionary GOTONOVA® computerized control system is by far the most technologically advanced automated goto and tracking system available on the market today. With its large celestial object database, including all of the well-known galaxies, nebulae, star clusters-- not to mention the planets, sun and moon-- you’ll be able to enjoy star gazing with the simple push of a button. Both axis motors are built into a small single unit with optical encoders that provide accurate GOTO and tracking. The control system also allows you to slew the telescope at different drive speeds, keeping the object within the telescope's viewfinder for as long as you wish.       

The most easy to understand controller on the market 
The GoToNova hand controller is much easier to use than other similar products. The hand controller is more intuitive with menu categories better organized. It also has a larger LCD screen with more lines of content compared with the competition. Using the easy-to-use hand controller and its large LCD screen, you can easily set up your telescope and select where you want to go.

 

32-Channel GPS
All iEQ45 Pro telescope mounts come standard with a built-in 32-channel GPS module for fully automated operation and alignment. Simply turn on the Go2Nova® Controller and the GPS module will automatically synchronize your telescope location and time with the Go2Nova® computerized control system. View celestial objects without having to manually punch in the date, time, latitude or longitude.
