The new twist-lock system allows locking 1.25" accessories dead-on to the optical axis, removing possibility of accessories being tilted or off-center, as well as problems of safety grooves being trapped in compression rings. By twisting the ring, an internal blackened compression ring closes in around the barrel of the eyepiece. It is then held gently but securely in the center. Pressure is not concentrated to one point but around the complete surface area of the eyepiece barrel. A safety thumbscrew is included to further secure the eyepiece if needed.
Different telescopes can have very different back focus distances. In most telescopes the focal plane is deliberately moved further out, allowing users to attach cameras and other accessories more easily. Refractors always have a rather long back focus since they are usually used with a star diagonal or erecting prism. As a result of this you often cannot directly focus the telescope if you do not use it with the above mentioned accessories. You would have to move the focuser further out, but you reach the end of the focus travel before reaching a focused image.
The Solution: GSO Optics self-centering extension tubes bridge the gap between the focuser and the focal plane. They are the ideal solution whenever the focus lies further outside than you can reach with the focuser. For telescopes that accept 2" accessories, GSO 2" self-centering extension tubes come in 3 lengths: 35mm, 50mm, 80mm. Choose the one with the back focus that you need.
The extension tubes are precisely machined from solid aluminium. They are black anodized. Interior of tube is baffled and blackeded to reduce reflections and glare. The 2" barrel has a safety undercut thumbscrew that adds additional protection to prevent eyepieces from dropping out of the tube. The barrel also has a 2" filter thread (M48x0.75) on the side of the telescope.
GSO is a leader in optical telescopes and accessories and their products have been sold for years by the "Big Three" (Meade, Celestron and Orion) under their own brand names. GSO telescopes and accessories are also sold under different names world-wide; Zhumell (USA), Apertura (USA), TPO (USA), Teleskop Service (Germany), Sky Optic (France), Antares (Canada), Astronz (New Zealand), and more than a dozen more brands too many to name. GSO are known for their high consistency in quality control, low defects, and their Taiwanese-based manufacturing are close to match Japan in quality than other telescope manufacturers which are mostly manfactured in Mainland China. Give these telescopes a try - you will not be disappointed!
